The first Monday Night Football of 2024/25 sees 2016 Premier League champions Leicester City make their return to the top flight after a season of exile in the Championship. Needless to say, Andrea Bocelli’s triumphant notes are but forlorn echoes of the past at the King Power Stadium, with the Foxes now first and foremost trying to survive as a newly-promoted side with a considerable points deduction verdict hanging over their heads due to a breach of Profit and Sustainability rules.

Leicester were also forced to hire a third manager in as many seasons, and former Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper has proven somewhat of a controversial appointment given his links to one of Leicester’s greatest rivals. Nonetheless, Cooper's unbeaten record in his two debuts at former clubs (W1, D1) might be a good omen here, although the fact that all four of his personal meetings with Tottenham Hotspur saw two-goal margin finishes - with his side on the wrong end of three (W1) - could put that under threat.

Year two of the Ange Postecoglou era of Spurs gets underway after his side set the pace early in the season last term before fizzling out to a fifth-place finish. Buoyed by the £65m signing of Dominic Solanke, Postecoglou will be hoping to emulate his former glories in his second season, remarkably winning the Asian Cup in his second year as Australia manager whilst winning the league with at all three clubs he managed at for 2+ years (Celtic, Brisbane, and Yokohama).

But winning the Premier League is a much bigger task given the quality of the opposition, and their early endeavours have not been helped but off-field issues with Yves Bissouma suspended by the club recently due to misconduct. Putting that to bed with a win is the first order of business, although the way Spurs finished their away league campaign last time around leaves much to be desired (W1, D1, L4).

Players to watch: Leicester’s lively winger Abdul Fatawu made his loan move from Sporting permanent for this summer and the young Ghanaian found the opener in four of his last five scoring appearances. Predicted as the “signing of the season,” by Arsenal legend Ian Wright, Spurs fans will be licking their lips at the prospect of Solanke building on his 19 league goal return last season for Bournemouth. Curiously, his first top-flight goal for the Cherries came against none other than Leicester!

Hot stat: Six of the last seven H2Hs in which Leicester were the hosting side saw both teams score with over 2.5 total goals (LEI: W3, L4).
