Premier League EN-GB Preview: Arsenal vs Leicester

Arsenal nearly claimed a momentous win at Manchester City on Sunday, but conceding a 98th minute equaliser meant they had to settle for a 2-2 draw after playing most of the match with ten men. Manager Mikel Arteta rubbished accusations that they’d employed ‘dark arts’ to try to close out victory, but however they got it, the point earned in an epic clash preserved their unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign (W3, D2).

Despite a lengthening injury list, the Gunners must now back up that effort with another strong home performance, something fans have gotten used to given they’ve won three of their last five Premier League games here ‘to nil’ while scoring at least twice (W4, D1). They’re also used to seeing them dominate this H2H as they’ve only lost once to Leicester at home since September 1973 (W22, D7)!

The visitors remain winless in the league since returning to the top-flight (D3, L2) but draws against Crystal Palace (2-2) and Everton (1-1) have kept them away from the bottom-three. However, discontent is growing, with some fans unhappy with the start manager Steve Cooper has made and even he admitted Leicester deserved no more than a point against Everton.

The Foxes needed penalties to get past League Two Walsall on Tuesday following a 0-0 draw in the EFL Cup, hardly the confidence boost they would have liked as they bid for a first Premier League away win since February 2023 (D4, L6). Travelling fans haven’t enjoyed London much either, watching their side concede twice on both visits to the capital this term (D1, L1).

Players to watchKai Havertz, the last man to score at home for Arsenal in the league, has netted twice here this term already, on both occasions opening the scoring between the 20th and 40th minute. Once on Arsenal’s books, Stephy Mavididi was on target in both of Leicester’s last two league fixtures and all three of his goals this term arrived after half-time.

Hot streak: Arsenal are unbeaten across their last 39 home league games against promoted sides (W34, D5).
