Impressive back-to-back 3-0 victories made Juventus the only Serie A team with a perfect record after the opening two rounds (W2), with this the first time in seven seasons that the Bianconeri have scored 6+ goals by this stage. The general enthusiasm surrounding the club was further boosted by the arrivals of Nico González (Fiorentina) and Teun Koopmeiners (Atalanta), both of whom know this league inside out.

Despite that, coach Thiago Motta continues to give starts to Juventus U23 products with great success. Following Samuel Mbangula’s opening round goal against Como, it was Nicolò Savona who registered his maiden Serie A strike in their 3-0 win at Verona. Motta could make history with a repeat of their first two Serie A results here as Juventus have won their opening three league matches ‘to nil’ just once across their last 18 Serie A campaigns.

Despite a return home and the encouraging news that star player Paulo Dybala refused an enormous offer to play in Saudi Arabia, Roma were unable  to secure their first Serie A win of the season as they surprisingly lost 2-1 at home to Empoli last weekend. Their fans could be used to sluggish starts, having witnessed Roma fail to win both of their opening two league fixtures four times in the last six seasons.

Allianz Stadium appears to be the last place Roma would go to correct some poor form, being a venue where they have lost 13 of their 15 matches since its inauguration (W1, D1). Manager Daniele De Rossi could be the right man to help correct that as there has been a notable turnaround in Roma’s away performances since his arrival, with the visitors losing only three of their 14 competitive trips (W5, D6).

Players to watch: Juve’s Dušan Vlahović opened his account with a brace against Verona and has now scored the match opener in seven of his last 11 goalscoring appearances, whilst also doing so against Roma here back in 2022/23. A surprise to many, it was Eldor Shomurodov who scored Roma’s first league goal of this season, with each of his last seven Serie A goals arriving after the break.

Hot stat: Six of the last seven H2Hs produced under 2.5 total goals.
