What a time it’s been for Atlético Madrid who sit on a 13-game winning streak in all competitions and just two points off the La Liga summit with a game in hand. Looking to win La Liga for the first time since 2020/21, Diego Simeone’s side now aim to stretch their league winning streak to eight straight games - the last time they did that was back in that title-winning season!
Underpinning Atleti’s superb form is their nine-game unbeaten league streak at home (W7, D2), securing five shutouts along the way and scoring 2+ goals in six of those games. But it should be noted that the last time they lost on their own turf was to opponents here Osasuna in a surprise 4-1 defeat - the joint-most goals Atleti have conceded at home since 2007!
Dragging a six-game winless La Liga streak (D4, L2) the Osasuna faithful are unlikely to expect a similar result this time around. Despite that downturn in form which has seen them drop to tenth-place ahead of the matchday, the Pamplona-based side sit directly below three other sides all on 25 points, so a victory here could boost outside hopes of a European finish.
In order for that to happen, they’ll need to remedy a torrid away record which has seen them gain just one victory on their travels this league campaign (D4, L3), with Osasuna managing one goal or fewer in seven of those encounters. Only time will tell if they can shock Atleti once again, though that surprise victory last season served to halt a run of 11 straight league losses to the Madrid side!
Players to watch: Atleti legend Antoine Griezmann has four goals in Atleti’s last three home outings, three of which came after half-time. On the other side is Osasuna’s Lucas Torró, who struck in his side’s last La Liga outing and also grabbed a goal in that 4-1 H2H rout last season.
Hot stat: Atlético have scored at least one second-half goal in each of their last seven La Liga home games.
