Brentford are returning to Premier League action after suffering a shock FA Cup defeat to the Championship's bottom club Plymouth Argyle on Saturday (1-0). That made it just one win in seven competitive matches for Thomas Frank’s side (D1, L5) who are still sitting comfortably in mid-table, but showing signs that they might be losing their home turf stronghold, losing their last three games at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The one win in their recent rotten run did come last time out in league action at Southampton, and came by a handsome 5-0 scoreline, but goals have largely been tough to come by of late, with the Bees failing to score more than a single goal in the six other games in that poor run. Just two wins from ten games against teams starting the round inside the top ten (D1, L7) won’t boost confidence either ahead of Manchester City’s visit.

The visitors have finally started to rediscover some of the form we’ve come to expect from the reigning champions and have avoided defeat in each of their past four competitive matches (W3, D1). The most recent was an 8-0 hammering of League Two’s Salford City, meaning another win here would see City secure four wins on the bounce for the first time since October.

While City have had a campaign to forget so far, they have maintained their supremacy on the road against bottom ten sides with no defeat in their four such matches against those teams (W3, D1). Three straight H2H wins for Guardiola’s men should also boost hopes they can do what’s needed here to climb back in the league’s top five, even if it may only be for 24 hours.

Players to watch: Only Mohamed Salah (13) and Bukayo Saka (ten) have provided more Premier League assists this season than Brentford’s Mikkel Damsgaard (seven). Savinho has been involved in four goals in his last two Premier League appearances for Man City (G1, A3), twice as many as he had in his first 15 (A2).

Hot stat: Brentford have lost more Premier League games having scored the first goal than any other side this season (five).
