Many wondered how PSG would fare after the summer departure of goalscoring machine Kylian Mbappé, but it turns out they’ll be just fine if their early season form is anything to go by. The reigning champions have begun their title defence in marauding fashion with three wins in as many Ligue 1 games, conceding just twice while rattling the back of the net an incredible 13 times themselves.

That’s the second-best goals tally after three matches that the French top-flight has seen for five decades, only behind the PSG side of 2022/23 with 17. The Parisians will hope the international break hasn’t stifled their recent momentum, but with a 6-0 demolition of Montpellier in their home league opener this season, last term’s struggles when they won just one of their final six league matches in front of their fans (D4, L1) seem to be a distant memory.

Opponents Brest were finding the start of the 2024/25 campaign much more difficult, having lost their opening two Ligue 1 matches 5-1 to Marseille and 2-0 Lens. The Pirates then performed under pressure and displayed the type of quality that saw them finish third last season, by beating Saint-Étienne 4-0 prior to the international break.

Manager Éric Roy would’ve spent the hiatus plotting a way to dismantle the PSG juggernaut, something he’s personally failed to do in seven of his eight managerial H2Hs (W1 D2, L5), the last four of which extended Brest’s winless run against them to 28 encounters (D8, L20). That spells trouble for his side who’ll soon meet teams of a similar calibre in the UEFA Champions League (UCL), with fixtures against the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Barcelona, and UCL champions Real Madrid on the horizon.

Players to watch: PSG’s Bradley Barcola has had a great start to the season netting four goals already. He’ll be fired up for this one having assisted the opener in each league game against Brest last season, before getting sent off in the 2-2 draw at the Parc des Princes in January. Mahdi Camara scored for Brest that day, contributing to him scoring his side’s opener in six of his last seven goalscoring outings.

Hot stat: 11 of PSG’s last 12 home league games saw both teams score. 123
