A creditable 1-1 draw at Lazio means that Como have now lost just one of their last six Serie A games (W2, D3), with their latest result keeping them out of the bottom three ahead of the midweek round of fixtures. That point gained in Rome was also the fifth time this season that Cesc Fàbregas’ men have earned something from a losing position (W1, D4), highlighting the sort of resolve that could prove pivotal in their battle to stay up.

Fàbregas would probably take a draw going into Tuesday night’s meeting with AC Milan, who Como haven’t beaten in their last 12 meetings (D5, L7), but given that the Biancoblù have registered 2-0 wins in their last two home games, perhaps they will be expecting even more from this encounter than just a share of the spoils.

Como’s confidence about getting a result will be boosted further by the fact that Milan’s Serie A away form this term has been distinctly average (W3, D2, L3). Although the Rossoneri lifted the Supercoppa Italiana in Saudi Arabia earlier this month, defeating Juventus and Inter Milan to claim the trophy, they marked their return home with a hugely disappointing 1-1 draw against relegation-threatened Cagliari on Saturday at San Siro.

That result means that, despite new manager Sérgio Conceição remaining unbeaten (W2, D1) since taking over from Portuguese compatriot Paulo Fonseca, the former Porto boss has a sizeable task on his hands getting Milan into the top four, as they currently sit eight points adrift of that threshold ahead of their trip to Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia.

Players to watch: Patrick Cutrone’s equaliser at Lazio on Friday was the first time that he had scored in consecutive Serie A games for almost four-and-a-half years, while his last three goals for Como have all been between the 70th and 80th minutes. Álvaro Morata’s opener against Cagliari by contrast was his first goal in six appearances, with each of the Spaniard’s last five goals at club level now having come before the hour mark.

Hot stat: None of Milan’s eight away league matches this season have been decided by more than a one-goal margin.
