AC Milan kept their continental top-eight charge alive after securing a 1-0 victory over Girona in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) in midweek. That was their first European victory under new manager Sérgio Conceição and acted as an ideal reaction to the concerns of the new boss about the Rossoneri’s mentality after their 2-0 defeat to Juventus in their last Serie A match.

Four victories across six competitive matches under the new manager (D1, L1), including the Supercoppa Italiana triumph, still represents a good starting point for overcoming the two-point deficit to the European places ahead of this round, but Milan will need to end their current three-game run of stalemates in home Serie A matches if they’re to truly push on, with draws taking the shine off what is just one league defeat at the San Siro all season  (W4, D5, L1).

After winning only one of their last seven matches (D2, L4), it's hardly surprising that Parma started this round just one point away from the relegation zone. Their latest 1-1 draw against fellow newcomers Venezia marked their first goal scored across the previous three rounds, which now highlights their defensive troubles even more as only Verona conceded more than their 36 goals coming to this weekend.

The visitors are also on a run of three away matches without a goal scored, which has contributed to stretching their current away winless streak to four (D1, L3). Facing another ‘top side’ in the division, Fabio Pecchia’s men will have to find a remedy to compete given both their matches from this run against top-half teams ended in comfortable defeats with eight goals conceded in total (vs Inter/Roma), not to mention the fact Parma have conceded at least twice in nine consecutive away matches against Milan (W1, D1, L7).

Players to watch: After scoring in Milan’s last match against Serie A newcomers Como, Theo Hernández saw his last ten competitive goals for the club arrive in victories. Dennis Man opened the scoring in the reverse fixture won by Parma 2-1 and three of his four seasonal league goals arrived in the opening 25 minutes.

Hot stat: Milan have conceded before the break in just one of their last eight home competitive matches.
