Inter Milan edged out Venezia 1-0 on Sunday for both their sixth consecutive Serie A win and also their sixth away league victory in a row without conceding for the first time in their history! With key players missing out due to injury, there’s no doubt that head coach Simone Inzaghi will have been happy to bounce back after agonisingly losing to AC Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana final less than a week previous.
That victory keeps the Nerazzurri only four points behind league leaders Napoli with two games in hand ahead of facing Bologna, a team they have twice beaten 6-1 across their last three top-flight home H2Hs (D1). The hosts will now hope to ride on all of those positives to post three consecutive home wins for the first time this league campaign.
Things haven’t been as rosy for Bologna, who drew 2-2 with Roma on Sunday after conceding courtesy of a late penalty, prompting head coach Vincenzo Italiano to claim his side had “thrown more points away”. Despite that late collapse, the Rossoblù are still just three points off the top-six in their quest for another season of European football and they’re more than capable of an upset here having defeated Inter twice in the last four competitive H2Hs (D1, L1).
While their record at the San Siro of late remains a hurdle, Bologna can take confidence from their recent form on the road having lost just once across their last eight away league games (W4, D3). Seven of those matches saw the visitors net 2+ goals, and with the last four H2H league encounters Inter have hosted producing at least four match goals, excitement should be expected.
Players to watch: Marcus Thuram assisted Inter’s second goal in a 2-2 H2H league draw last season at this venue and will hope to get on the scoresheet again as his last ten league strikes have arrived within six wins for his side. Dan Ndoye’s last away league goal came in a 2-2 draw against another Italian powerhouse in Juventus, and he also scored an extra time winner in a 2-1 Coppa Italia H2H win at this venue in 2023.
Hot stat: After the weekend, only Atalanta had scored in both halves more times than Inter (eight) and Bologna (seven) in this league campaign.
