After back-to-back Premier League draws to start the year, Liverpool rediscovered the winning touch by scoring twice in the closing stages to beat Brentford last week, moving six points clear at the summit having played a game fewer than their rivals. That result made it 17 top-flight games without defeat for the Reds (W12, D5), which sees Arne Slot set the longest unbeaten league run by a Liverpool manager in their first season since William Edward Barclay in 1893/94, which was Liverpool’s first ever season in the Football League!

The good times rolled on at Anfield with a 2-1 victory over Lille in midweek European action, where a refreshing feeling of scoring first was felt since the Reds have conceded first in each of their last three home league matches. They’ll be hoping to end that streak against the team they started this campaign against, and replicating that 2-0 opening day win against Ipswich would see Liverpool win their 11th consecutive home league game against promoted opposition.

That spells trouble for Ipswich who are coming off a 6-0 hammering at the hands of Manchester City, which was their second consecutive loss without scoring after a 2-0 defeat to Brighton prior. Those poor results have seen them remain in the relegation zone, along with their fellow promoted sides Leicester and Southampton.

Hitting the road may be their best bet in terms of escaping the drop zone, since the majority of their points (9/16) and goals (12/20) have come on their travels this campaign. Manager Kieran McKenna will know away games don’t come much harder than heading to Anfield though, a place where Ipswich have won just two of their prior 30 league visits (D8, L20).

Players to watch: An unused substitute in midweek, Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo is primed to return hoping to become just the third Dutchman to score in five successive Premier League home games, joining elite company of Ruud van Nistelrooy and Robin van Persie. Hoping to steal the headlines will be Ipswich talisman Liam Delap, who has proven he isn’t shy on the road with four of his last five goals coming away from home.

Hot stat: Liverpool have only won one of their last 16 home league matches by a 3+ goal margin.
