Round 17 of the Bundesliga signals the halfway point of the league campaign and, after failing to make it 12 titles in a row last season, Bayern Munich will be pleased with their position at the top of the table in 2024/25. Their table topping position owes largely to the fact they’ve scored the most goals and conceded the least in the Bundesliga ahead of Wednesday’s visit of relegation-threatened Hoffenheim.

Across domestic and European fixtures, Bayern have won nine of their 11 games (D1, L1) at the Allianz Arena in 2024/25, with last season’s Bundesliga champions Bayern Leverkusen the only side to have prevented a home victory. The loss came in the DFB-Pokal last month, but that encounter saw goalkeeper Manuel Neuer dismissed after 17 minutes, and since then, Vincent Kompany’s men have responded with 4-2 and 5-1 wins on their own patch.

Coming up against such a strong record, Hoffenheim could be forgiven for expecting the worst, as they have failed to win any of their last 11 away games across all competitions (D5, L6). In fact, their only success on the road so far this season came in August against fourth-tier Würzburger Kickers in the cup - and that required extra time and penalties!

Overall, Die Kraichgauer have picked up only two victories from their last 15 Bundesliga fixtures (D5, L8) and begin this round just one point above the relegation play-off place. For manager Christian Ilzer, who was only appointed in mid-November, the size of his task could not be more apparent, and it could be about to get even tougher here as Hoffenheim have beaten Bayern on just one of their 16 league visits (D3, L12).

Players to watch: Leroy Sané, who turned 29 on Saturday, got two assists in this fixture last season and has contributed to a second-half goal (G1, A1) in both of Bayern’s last two home games. Andrej Kramarić has scored eight times and provided two assists in H2Hs against Bayern, including being involved in all four of Hoffenheim’s goals (G3, A1) the last time the sides met!

Hot stat: In all competitions, Hoffenheim have led at half-time in only one of their 12 away fixtures this season.
