Serie A leaders Napoli delivered a statement victory last week as they saw off fellow title challengers Atalanta 3-2 in Bergamo. That kept the Partenopei three points clear of defending champions Inter at the top of the table - albeit having played a game more - pre-round, while a sixth successive league win marked their best such run since February 2023 en route to the Scudetto.

Antonio Conte’s men therefore emphatically answered the question marks surrounding the hole left in their squad by the now departed Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. And with defender Alessandro Buongiorno reportedly on the verge of a return from injury, Napoli appear primed to continue their title tilt on home soil, where they’ve accumulated a joint-league high 24 home points (W8, D2).

Another big challenge awaits as Juventus come to town, but Thiago Motta’s men sit a whopping 13 points adrift of Napoli, with their focus solely on the top-four. After impressing in a 2-0 win over AC Milan last week, it was back to normal for the Bianconeri in midweek as they were held to a goalless draw by Club Brugge - a game which featured just one shot on target from either side!

Remarkably, that made it seven draws from Juventus’ last eight away games across all competitions (W1). While they may not be as easy on the eye as some of their rivals, the Old Lady are certainly difficult to beat on the road, with their last such defeat arriving in April against Lazio. Ominously, the reverse fixture between these sides ended 0-0 in Turin in September!

Players to watch: Midfielder Scott McTominay has already scored five league goals for Napoli, four of which arrived before the break. Also on five Serie A goals this term is Juventus’ Timothy Weah, whose strike against Milan was his first this term to arrive beyond the hour mark.

Hot stat: Just two of Napoli’s 12 home matches this season have seen both teams on the scoresheet.
